The Roy T. Herman garage and gas station in Thoreau is one of the oldest remaining gas stations along Route 66 in New Mexico and one of the first examples of franchised gas stations in the state with its style, layout, and materials. Although it has been uprooted and moved twice, the building retains its historical appearance and orientation towards Route 66.
