Welcome to the channel, thank you so much for joining me today. I'm sitting outside in front of the freshly renovated vintage Airstream Argosy, dreaming of cooler temperatures, which made me think of Yellowstone. So I wanted to share 11 of our favorite free camping spots near Yellowstone National Park. There's nothing like free camping away from the crowds when you're in a national park. Fasten your seat belts, we're going to get there quickly. If you would like to view this resource at any time, you can click on the article below: RV Life News / Yellowstone. This will give you the complete list, site by site, so you can always refer to it. Let’s dive in!
Snake River Boondocking
This campground is located south of Yellowstone, so you will enter through the south entrance. It's on the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Parkway between Yellowstone and the Grand Teton, making it an ideal starting point. Sites are perfect for tents, vans and small RVs. The road is a bit bumpy and can be difficult to navigate with a large RV or fifth wheel. The locations are isolated and great. There are separate toilets for each pitch, and they are the cleanest toilets we have ever seen. Snake River Boondocking is right on the Snake River, so you can walk right to the river's edge. Don't take our word for it, listen to Cobra's Journey on Camp Enya which describes a cute little campsite on the banks of the Snake River with wildlife everywhere.
Car Bella Recreation Site
This site is located in Emigrant Montana, near the north entrance to Yellowstone. It's great for tents, vans, and RVs, and cell coverage is good for Verizon. You may need an amplifier if you use AT&T or T-Mobile. It is an open place with great views. Class A RVs and fifth wheels have been seen camping there. Additionally, there is a river at the back of the campsite, another waterfront spot. Denver D-Max on Campendium says it's his favorite place near Yellowstone, no bugs, a light breeze, the sound of the river for good sleep, and a perfect temperature.
Targhee Creek Trailhead
This campground is located near the west entrance to Yellowstone, in Island Park, Idaho. It is ideal for tents, vans and RVs. This is a perfect place for campers who want to avoid the tourist crowds of Yellowstone. You're away from the action, but still relatively close to Yellowstone's west entrance. It is ideal for groups and offers a good corral to enjoy a nice campfire. If you are camping in a group, this is a great place. Sonia from Camp ND'M says it's a great place with beautiful mountain views, easy access to trails, quiet and green with lots of flowers during their stay.
Red Rock Pass
This site is in Island Park, Idaho, near the west entrance to Yellowstone. It's ideal for tents, RVs, and vans, and there's coverage for Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. This is another hidden gem where you can truly escape the hustle and bustle of Yellowstone, but stay close to the entrance. This is a great place to avoid the crowds in Yellowstone. There may be people everywhere inside the park. If you want to get out of the park and have more privacy, check out Red Rock Pass.
Bill from E County Park
This campground is also located in Island Park, Idaho, near the west entrance. This site is more like an established campsite, with picnic tables, fire pits, and well-maintained restrooms on site. The views of the lake are superb, but swimming and drinking in the water is not recommended. LuAnn on Campendium says they chose a location with good tree dividers on either side so it was private. The campsite is surrounded by cow pastures, easy to access and quiet.
Cherry Creek Campground
This campground is west of West Yellowstone, Montana, and is ideal for tents and vans. RVs are allowed, but only the smallest ones. It's located just 25 minutes from the Yellowstone entrance, away from congestion but close to the action. It has toilets on site, but no other amenities.
Have a great stay at these free campsites near Yellowstone and enjoy nature!
