Free camping along the Baker River
Summary of video transcription from: LivingOurDreamNow
While researching online, I discovered several resources mentioning free camping along the Baker River, just before it flows into Baker Lake. Unfortunately, RV camping near the river appears to be blocked by the forest. However, there are many campfire rings along the river, providing beautiful scenery. The Baker River Trail parking lot has restrooms and ample parking space, with trails leading to walk-in campsites. There is guidance on required passes, such as Northwest Forests, America the Beautiful Senior Access, and Military Passes, which allow free access. As we walked up the Baker River Trail, we came across some beautiful spots like a walking bridge with amazing views of the river and natural pools for swimming.
Free dispersed camping along the Baker River
While researching online, I discovered several different resources that directed me to free camping along the Baker River, just before the river flows into Baker Lake. There are several campfire rings all along the river, it's really pretty and picturesque. However, it appears the Forest Service has blocked the RV campsite that once existed near the river. I don't see any way to get an RV in here, they have set up some big rocks. I'll show you, I'll take you to the Baker River Trail parking lot.
The Baker River Trail parking lot is there. You can see the campfire rings all the way from here, it's very picturesque. There's the Baker River, and yes, there are more campfire rings here. This is the Baker River Trail, parking is located here. Let me show you what I'm talking about.
Here are the public toilets right next to the parking lot, and here are those huge rocks I was telling you about. It looks like at one time you could drive here and put a vehicle in, and backing up here I saw over a dozen campfire rings just from walking around. You can see them all around this first level. There is a small trail that continues and there are more walking campsites there. You could set up a tent here, and down below you can see where the campfire rings are that I showed you at the beginning of the video. It says "recreation fee required", but with federal recreation passes, America the Beautiful passes for seniors and military are free.
Here's something I didn't know, this is the first time I've seen this in multiple places. Northwest Forest passes are accepted, as well as these other passes. We have an access pass and it appears to be valid here as well. If you have an access pass or one of those other interagency passes, it looks like you don't need the Northwest Forest pass.
We decided to walk the Baker River Trail which is just above the trail parking lot, and there is a pedestrian bridge that takes you to the other side of the river. This is part of the trail, the other part is up there, look at the landscape up there, it's really cool.
Can you hear water rising over a bridge? But look at this water, it's really something, it's a swimming hole if I've ever seen one.
Okay, we're approaching the bridge. So if you decide to walk to this bridge from the trail parking lot, you will see a sign that says "Baker Lake Trail to the right and Baker River Trail straight ahead." We're going to go to the middle of this bridge.
This is your view from the pedestrian bridge that takes you across the river. Look at those mountains up there. The Baker River from the Baker River Trail, this is a view looking down towards Baker Lake. There are some water holes to the right, I bet they would be great, great swimming holes. You're a little removed from the main stream, but wow, in the summer, isn't it beautiful here? It's really picturesque.
While I didn't find free RV camping at the Baker River Trail parking lot, I did find fantastic tent camping along that Baker River. Look at this landscape, I think I'll stop there. I will have GPS coordinates for the trail parking lot and tent campsite in the video description on YouTube. There is no cellular network in this location. If you like these videos, please like and subscribe, and I'll see you on the road.
