Behind me is Baker Lake Road, a well-maintained asphalt road that takes you from Washington State Highway 20 up to Baker Lake and the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. There is a free campground supposedly suitable for large vehicles up there above Baker Lake, and that is where we are headed now. We are approaching the turnoff onto Mt. Baker National Forest Road 12. We will turn left here onto Forest Road 12. As we drive up Mt. Baker National Forest Road 12, we approach the campground, about 1.8 miles from the main road. There is a fire ban issued by the forest supervisor, only gas is exempt from this ban. The campground is large enough for RVs and has a nice view of the mountains. This is a great place to camp for free in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.
Free Wild Camping Mount Baker National Forest
Music has the power to transport us and connect us to beautiful places, like the Baker Lake Highway. This well-maintained asphalt road takes you from Washington State Route 20 to Baker Lake and the Baker-Saqualmi National Forest. There is a free campground, apparently suitable for large vehicles, located above Baker Lake and that is where we are headed now.
As we drive up Baker Mountain Road, we approach National Forest Road #12. This road, located in the Baker-Saqualmi National Forest, leads us to the campground we are looking for. The campground is listed as about 1.8 miles off the main road, so we go see if that is correct.
As we arrive at the campsite, we come across a sign indicating a fire ban issued by the forest supervisor. Open fires are not allowed, but propane stoves or lanterns are exempt from this ban. After inspecting the area by car and on video, we decide to take a short walk to explore further.
The campsite is quite large and suitable for large vehicles, with fire rings and a nice view of the surrounding mountains. There are established shooting areas, but they seem deserted at the moment.
As we drive around we come across more rings of fire and a nice flat area to set up our camper. The view is beautiful with snow visible high up in the mountains.
This free campground in the Baker-Saqualmi National Forest is a treasure trove for outdoor enthusiasts. We share GPS coordinates and mobile connection speeds in the video description for those who would like to visit this incredible place.
