Music is an endless source of enjoyment and entertainment for many people around the world. Whether it’s listening to your favorite artist in concert or singing along in your car on the way to work, music has the power to transport us to another place. But did you know that music can also be a source of inspiration for other forms of art?

In this article, we’ll explore how music can influence free camping in Washington State. Melody and I spent August and September 2021 in this beautiful state and visited 26 free camping areas during our stay. Out of all the areas we discovered, we’ll present to you the 12 best free camping areas in Washington State.

The first area we’ll explore is Lake Quincy. Located near the Columbia River, Lake Quincy offers a free camping area managed by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. You can stay there for up to 15 days with just a Discovery Pass, which also gives you access to all of Washington’s state parks. With ample space for large vehicles and great views of the lake, Lake Quincy is a great place for free camping.

Next, we’ll head to Martha Lake, which is conveniently located along Interstate 90. With spacious camping areas and stunning views of the lake, Martha Lake is perfect for a stopover in your RV or camper. Exploring further, we’ll discover the Frenchman Cooley area, which is ideal for small RVs and offers spectacular views of the surrounding rock formations.

We'll also visit Lake Wenatchee Airstrip dispersed camping area, nestled in the Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. This area offers a variety of campsites for large vehicles and is a great base for exploring the surrounding area, including Cool Chuck Lake.

As we travel through the Cascade Mountains, we will arrive at the Les Hilty Trailhead, a free camping area located in the Harry Osborne State Forest. This area is ideal for large vehicles and offers easy access to the Cascades Highway and North Cascades National Park.

We'll also make a stop at Caution Campground, a fantastic spot for free camping in the off-season. With spectacular views of Baker Lake, this spot is perfect for a peaceful getaway in nature.

Near Mount Rainier National Park, we'll explore the Sahara Creek Trailhead and Camping Area, a free camping area with stunning views of the surrounding wilderness. Finally, we'll head to the Cowlitz Fish Hatchery, a scenic spot along the Cowlitz River that's perfect for riverside camping.
