Music has the power to transport us to magical places, and that’s exactly what we experienced when we drove down Washington State Highway 706. The drive took us to Mount Rainier National Park, a majestic and unique place. Just 0.8 miles up the road is Sierra Horse Camp, nestled in a state forest. And best of all, camping is free here!

We finally reached the Sarah Creek Trailhead and camping area. A Discover Pass is required to camp here, but once you get it, camping is free for up to seven days. We were very impressed with the availability of free camping once you purchase this pass in Washington State. This campground is a perfect example.

As soon as you arrive at the camping area, you will find a parking lot, toilets and the beginning of the free camping area. Look how spacious these camping spots are! It's really great. And there is even a designated spot for disabled people, but available to everyone from 6 p.m.

Continuing around the campground loop, you will find many more free campsites. Some are really large and could accommodate RVs without a problem. There are also several picnic tables and fire pits scattered throughout the area.

There’s even a second, gigantic campground off the beaten path that’s accessible on weekends. Sierra Creek Campground is definitely a place to add to your camping bucket list. Friendly to large vehicles, it offers a wilderness camping experience while still being close to Mount Rainier National Park. A real find for outdoor enthusiasts.
