Free Camping in Pennsylvania's Michoa State Forest

We have just arrived in Michoa State Forest in Pennsylvania. Let's take a look around us. This is US Route 30 and it is the Michoa State Forest District Office. They have a welcome center that is currently closed, but you can call the number posted outside to ask questions. There are also brochures available. There is parking for visitors and camping is free for up to seven days here in Michoa State Forest.

Discovery of campsites

There is a kiosk and a district office with a nice map of the forest. Camping permits are available here, as well as online. To choose a campsite, you need to know which location you want to put on the permit. There are different types of motorized campsites where you can bring your RV or park and walk to your site.

Exploring campsites

We go to location number one in the Michoa Forest. This is a motorized location called “Big Flat”. It is ideal for large vehicles and offers plenty of space. There are campfire rings, clean toilets and places for tents. The site is suitable for a variety of activities, such as hiking, climbing and camping.

Exploring the Appalachian Trail and other campsites

We visit the Appalachian Trail and discover that there are other campsites available in the area as well. We explore site number seven, a walk-in campsite that offers privacy and tranquility. There are campfire rings and flat spaces for tents.
