Hello and welcome to the channel, as a full-time RVer for five years, I advise you to say no to Quartzsite. While there are reasons to go, such as the RV Show and Mineral Fair, the crowds and lack of privacy make it a destination to avoid. Ranger checks make camping difficult, and BLM campsites do not guarantee privacy. I recommend visiting American Girl Mine near Yuma for more space and privacy, or Lake Havasu for a diverse landscape and varied activities. There are other places in Arizona to explore, so ditch Quartzsite and check out other destinations.

Just Say No to Quartzite – It’s As Simple As That

Welcome to the channel, thanks for joining me today. As a full-time RV enthusiast for five years and having visited Quartzite at least six times over those years, and probably spending at least six months total in this town, I'm here to tell you that you should just say no. Of course there are plenty of reasons why a new RV enthusiast might want to drop by Quartzite, it's like the RV mecca for one month of the year with the Quartzite RV Show and Quartzite Rock and Gem Show, there are many reasons that might attract you there, but I promise you there are many other places to visit where you can find better free campsites and better things to do.

First, let me give you a few reasons to say no: the crowds are the first reason. Why on earth would you want to go to the smallest town with barely any amenities and fight for a loaf of bread? The supermarket limits the number of eggs you can buy, at least that was the case the last time we were there. Not because there are so many people and so few amenities, my recommendation is that if you have to go to Quartzite, stock up before you go. But honestly, just say no, because there's no reason to fight for a dozen eggs just to be in this small town that has nothing to offer.

Another reason not to go to Quartzite is that there are more rangers than ever there making sure people behave, and that's a good reason. This is because so many people have abused the privilege of free camping in the desert around Quartzite for so many years, but the problem now is that there is a glut of rangers and you can easily find yourself to accidentally camping somewhere it's not allowed, getting a knock at the door and having to move. Of course, that's good, but the problem is that there are so many people and so many eyes on you all the time that it sometimes feels babysitting. You can go to the outdoor BLM campsite, but again there are lots of rangers and control, no privacy at all. Why camp in a place where there are so many people and so many guards watching what you do? If you're like me, you want to be in the middle of nowhere, where you can live your life in peace and have some privacy while doing it. Quartzite is not the place for this to happen.

I won't say more about why not to go to Quartzite, but instead let's talk about the places you should go, because they exist and there are many of them. First of all, I recommend skipping Quartzite altogether and going to Yuma, camping at American Girl Mine. It's just over the border in California, but I promise you it's so big there, so much room to spread out. You have all the amenities of Yuma, but it's about 15-20 minutes away, so you have all the privacy of the desert. It's a great place to meet people too, form circles of 20 campers and hang out with a friend, but the site is so big I can be 500 yards away from you and see you as a little light far away. I can get out of my RV, use the bathroom outside, and not have to worry about not having any privacy. It's very large and easy to camp, accessible to large RVs, smaller RVs, much better than Quartzite, take note, American Girl Mine, right near Yuma, this is a place to go .

But if you're looking for a little more diversity in nature and you don't want to go to Quartzite, don't want to go to Yuma, go to Lake Havasu. Again, lots of free camping there, a little less privacy, but a great body of water. The town has so many amenities, you can camp anywhere from two miles to fifteen miles outside of town depending on how much privacy you want and still have a great campsite. Many RV groups hold their rallies there, it's a great social gathering point, but people also go there to go ATVing and off-roading. There is so much to do, it's a diverse and higher place than Quartzite, I highly recommend the Lake Havasu area over Quartzite any day. Again, I'm here to help, not to be controversial. If you want to go to Quartzite, so be it. Stay away from other places, but if you want to have a great winter and even bring your friends to these other places and not have to fight to get to the smallest supermarket with low quality products, skip Quartzite, go in Yuma, go to Lake Havasu. There are probably five other places in Arizona that you can find pretty easily on Campendium, do a little research, think off the beaten path, skip Quartzite. Let me know what you think, am I totally off base? Are you addicted to Quartzite? Which camp are you in? Thanks so much for watching, we'll see you next time.
