Boondocking: Enjoy the Freedom, Respect the Rules

Whether you are in a Class A, C, B+ or B motorhome, with a fifth wheel or a travel trailer, boondocking offers you a unique experience of freedom. It is an opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, far from the hustle and bustle of cities and traditional campsites. However, with this freedom comes an essential responsibility: to preserve wild and urban spaces for future generations.

To ensure everyone can continue to enjoy boondocking, here are a few simple rules to keep in mind:

1. Energy autonomy: Encourage the use of renewable energy sources such as solar panels. Noisy generators disturb the peace and quiet of the area and other campers. Be self-sufficient as much as possible.

2. Discretion: The ideal is to arrive in the late afternoon or early evening, and to leave the premises early in the morning, before 8am. This will minimise the impact on the surrounding area. Avoid taking out bulky equipment such as extensions, awnings, tables, chairs or barbecues. Respect the public space and remain discreet.

3. Respect for the environment: Take care to pick up all your waste, even the smallest ones like cigarette butts. For waste water, only empty your tanks at dedicated dumping stations. Nature must remain clean so that we can enjoy it for a long time to come.

4. Adapted vehicles: Boondocking requires self-contained and well-equipped vehicles. Tents, tent trailers, and hybrid trailers with bed extensions are not ideal for this type of camping due to their lack of self-sufficiency.

5. Support for local economies: When you settle near a city or town, don't hesitate to explore the local businesses. This helps contribute to the economy of the areas you visit and supports the communities.

By following these rules, you are helping to preserve our boondocking sites, while ensuring a great experience for you and the campers who come after you.

Boondocking is an adventure in the great outdoors, a freedom to be enjoyed with respect. Let's be responsible campers and respectful of the environment and the communities we encounter.

Enjoy your freedom while preserving the spaces that make it possible!
