Toronto's Trona Pinnacles offer an otherworldly landscape for camping, hiking or off-roading, and camping is free. The Trona Pinnacles are managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and contain more than 500 tufa peaks.
Melody and I arrived at the pinnacles of Trona. It is a national natural monument. These pinnacles are really cool, let me show you around. We arrived around 1pm this afternoon from the Lone Pine area. We will spend the night here at Trona Pinnacles so we can take some photos in the evening, night and early morning for you. These pinnacles are pretty incredible, but if you're coming with an RV, first of all, the road to get there is pretty rough, there's about four to five miles of bumpy road. If you can go five to ten miles per hour, you'll be good. You will come to a fork in the road, about 100 meters away. I'll show you where this fork is. Melody and I went down a very steep hill with the trailer, I didn't have to do it, but we're going to take a gentler route, I'll show you where that fork is. You don't want to go down this steep hill if you have a large vehicle.
This sign you see says “Pinnacles of Trona”, you will take this road which goes to the right. The Trona Pinnacles are on the left, but the access road will take you into the pinnacles in two different directions. I'll show you which way to go if you have a large vehicle.
After going down this road you will come to a place that opens up, you have public toilets at the base of the pinnacles and plenty of space. Melody and I stopped right next to the rock wall. I positioned my vehicle to get some sun, I didn't need to run my Yamaha generators, the solar panel I did a great job.
To begin our hike, we came across a small cave that probably extends 30 feet. There is an iron gate that is open, a real surprise during our hike. We are on one of the hiking trails that passes between the pinnacles and found a sign plaque.
We've done all our hiking this afternoon, and we're about to return to the vehicle for dinner. When the sun goes down I'll see if we can go out for another walk and see the pinnacles with the setting sun. I'm really looking forward to seeing this shot under the moonlight. I can't wait to see how this turns out.
