Context and Current Situation

The Labrador wildfire is advancing rapidly, now threatening Labrador City, just 6 km from the municipality. Weather conditions have accelerated the fire's spread, moving 30 km in a matter of hours.

Relief Efforts

Three air tankers and one aircraft from Quebec, provided by SOPFEU, are mobilized to fight the southern front. Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey emphasizes the intensity of efforts to secure the 9,000 citizens of Labrador City. The Canadian government has been asked for additional assistance.

Community Mobilization

The evacuation sent residents 500 km to Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Andrew Furey expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Happy Valley-Goose Bay for their warm welcome to the evacuees.
