Location Map
Description
Numbered dispersed camping site (yellow post) in the Santa Rosa area, in the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains (San Bernardino National Forest), accessible only via the Santa Rosa Truck Trail (forest road 7S02) -- a narrow, bumpy, and winding dirt road (hairpin turns, about 2000 to 2200 m elevation), sometimes closed in winter; a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended and trailers/RVs longer than about 6 m cannot access it. Free camping, no reservations, limited to 14 days and one group per site (max. 8 people, 2 vehicles) -- only a table and a fire ring are provided, no waste services, free California fire permit required for any fire or stove (readyforwildfire.org). This site (no. 3) is located directly at the Santa Rosa Spring -- along with the neighboring site 4, it is one of the only two places in the area where water is available on-site; no source specifies if it requires treatment before consumption.
