Location Map
Description
Camping Shirley Creek is a free site in the Hoosier National Forest, located about ten miles from Orleans. This small primitive campground has 17 sites originally designed for equestrian camping, but open to all forest visitors. There are vault toilets (double), picnic tables, fire rings, and tie-up posts with seasonal water access for horses; there is no drinking water — complete self-sufficiency is required. Access is via a gravel road, and the site is not suitable for large RVs (no pull-through sites): it is reserved for small recreational vehicles. Open year-round, first come, first served. Ideal for horseback riding and mountain biking on designated trails (permit required).
