Description
White Sands protects the largest expanse of white gypsum dunes in the world, a dazzling and almost lunar landscape. A paved scenic road winds through the heart of the dune field, where visitors can walk, sled on the sand, or admire spectacular sunsets. Backcountry camping is currently closed indefinitely (environmental assessment since summer 2026) -- no overnight stays are permitted at this time.
